Tirta Yatra: A Holy Pilgrimage

Tirta Yatra is a holy pilgrimage that Balinese Hindus actively undertake to visit holy temples and water springs across Bali.  The term “Tirta” in Sanskrit means holy water, while “Yatra” translates to journey. This spiritual quest leads devotees through sacred sites, where they perform rituals to seek blessings, purify themselves, and nurture spiritual growth. At each stop, pilgrims believe they cleanse the body, mind, and soul, while deepening their connection to the divine. The pilgrimage is not only an act of faith but also a time for personal reflection, shared stories, and strengthened cultural identity that binds communities together across generations.

On a rainy day on 25 June 2025, employees of PMG Hotels & Resorts embarked on this meaningful pilgrimage, visiting three sacred temples:

  •  Gua Lawah Temple (Bat Cave Temple), Klungkung

As one of Bali’s Sad Kahyangan Jagad (six holiest temples), this striking site stands around the entrance of a bat-filled cave, offering a powerful spiritual atmosphere.

  •  Andakasa Temple, Karangasem

Perched 200 meters above sea level, this temple honours Dewa Brahma, the god of creation. Perfect home for the creator of the universe.

  •  Silayukti Temple, Padangbai

Located on a hill in East Bali, this temple pays tribute to Mpu Kuturan, a revered figure in Balinese Hinduism known for shaping the island’s religious traditions. Although it is raining on our arrival it delivers a beautiful view of the Padang Bai harbour.

As the journey unfolds, the spirit of togetherness grows. More than just a physical trip, Tirta Yatra emerges as a living expression of gratitude, humility, and devotion. It honours ancestral traditions while encouraging each of us to reflect, reset, and move closer to spiritual clarity and inner peace. Ultimately, Tirta Yatra transforms both the inner and outer self, strengthening the bonds between people and the divine.
